Germany Seebrücke Sellin (Side View)
The first 508-meter-long pier was built in Sellin on the island of Rügen in 1906. The structure was destroyed by pack ice in 1918 and by fire in 1920. The pier was rebuilt in 1925, also 500 meters long. Severe ice drift in the winter of 1941/1942 destroyed this bridge as well. The bridge house was spared by the ice and was used as a dance hall until the 1970s. In 1978, the dilapidated bridgehead was demolished. The third bridge was built between 1992 and 1997. At 394 meters long, it is the longest pier on the island of Rügen. A restaurant is located on a platform near the beach, which is illuminated in the evenings.
Photography Tips
The sun sets behind the pier on the left. In overcast weather, with a bit of luck, you can witness a spectacular natural phenomenon. For a few minutes the setting sun illuminates the clouds in a deep red light. The photo was taken with a tripod, wide-angle lens, B&W filter, and a long exposure (30 seconds). The beach chairs in the foreground were raised slightly in post-production to increase the contrast.
