Greece Mavri Spilia (Black Cave) Prousos - Evrytania

The gorge of Mavri Spilia is about 2 km from the village of Prouso. It is one of the most beautiful and impressive gorges of Evritania. It has taken its name from the famous Black Cave, which was a refuge for the inhabitants of the region during the Ottoman domination and during the German occupation. What makes the Cave of Black Cave stand out is the only via ferrata route, the start of which is marketed by the Black Cave.

The path that the visitor will follow to approach it is based on a picturesque stone pithoula next to the Poros Tornos bridge and continues with an uphill at some points but quite a path through a fir forest and as we approach the waters of the canyon willow and plane trees. Beautiful pictures follow each other with the picturesque wooden bridges and waterfalls that are also offered for swimming to steal the show until we reach the imposing Black Cave and the remaining ruins of the stone shelter.

The canyon has no difficulty making it suitable for beginners, it has 10 technical descents with the largest waterfall being 15 meters high.

Mavri Spilia is located southwest of Karpenissi.
We reach the village of Prousos and then we continue on the Karpenissi - Prousou - Kallithea Provincial Road, at 1.3km , we leave the Provincial Road of Karpenissi - Prousso - Kallithea moving straight (if we turn right we head towards Agrinio).
We continue our course, at 0.8km we reach the Kastania bridge where we park our vehicle and continue on foot.
To approach the Cave of Black Cave, follow the footpath with the red marker on foot.
