Vestrahorn Mountain is located on the Stokknes Peninsula, close to the town of Höfn. It is an impressive 454 meters tall, faces out to the sea on its southern side, and is surrounded by a sandy coastline often home to seals. It's a fabulous spot with a mountain, a black sand beach and a lagoon. You have the choice to take pictures of the mountain with the black sand beach, sea, lagoon, grasses of beach... The possibilities are endless and you can stay a long time to fill your memory card because the spot is fabulous! The sky and lights change constantly, it's just a paradise for photographers.

Photography Tips

Vestrahorn is an incredible location, but it's best to come prepared.
The weather can be unpredictable; even if the forecast predicts clear conditions, you could arrive at a very foggy mountain.
Make sure you check thoroughly for the latest forecast and bring a camera protection for the rain. The wind can also be very strong, so have a sturdy tripod.
The best time for photographing is at sunrise, sunset or northern lights. Take a very wide lens with you. Don't forget good shoes for the different hiking paths.

Travel Information

However, Vestrahorn is about a six-hour drive from Reykjavík, making it slightly too far to reach and return in a day. It can only be reached by car.
The land is privately owned, so you must pay to access the beach (about 1000isk per person).
There is a bed and breakfast (The Viking Cafe) where you can buy tickets to the beach or book a room if you wish to sleep there while hunting for the Northern lights.

Thanks Simone.Unfortunately, many participants in this adventure limit themselves to posting photos without any reference. I greatly appreciate the attached comments that, in addition to being instructive, are a sign of respect towards the photography community.

Thank you Marcelo, I appreciate your words. I joined this community as it helped me a lot discovering places I didn't know existed, so the least I can do is to repay the favor to fellow photographers who are helping keep the community alive. All the best!

According to the location you took the picture almost near the radar, is it allowed to go there? The spot where I was is not even close as good as yours. And about paying I don't think he would be there during sunset in June at around 23.00
