Hands down, this is one of the most excellent locations to photograph puffins in Iceland during summer. You can get close by staying on the trail built for visitors to climb the rock without disturbing the animals. Come here from May to September on an afternoon/evening to have the best chances to see hundreds of puffins!

Photography Tips

You will be surprised how close you can get to the puffins at this location. Therefore you don't need those fancy and costly super tele prime lenses for good photos. The puffins are just meters away; your smartphone is good enough for photos. But: if you have a long lens, it's a great chance to get some relaxed portraits of the birds since you are so close anyways.

Travel Information

You can park your car at the designated parking area, which is free of charge. From here, it's just a few minutes on foot. The drive takes a bit to get to this location, but it is worth it to see puffins. I would also suggest checking www.safetravel.is when traveling in Iceland since weather and road conditions can change quickly.
