The heart of the highlands in Iceland is for sure the area around Maelifell. You will find many rivers to cross while driving through the black sand desert.

Photography Tips

Use rivers and outflows as leading lines. It's a playground around there! Check out more than just the green volcano mountain and turn your drone around in all sort of directions.

Travel Information

To reach Maelifell, you need to take the F210. Please be extremely careful since this road is one of the toughest F-Roads and only for people who know how to cross rivers and have a bigger 4x4 truck. The roads here can be pretty flooded when the glacial outflows being strong! Be careful when driving.
