Majestic Hindu temple located on a crater lake.

Photography Tips

This is a very popular spot and can get quite crowded, getting there before sunrise is recommended.

Some popular compositions are:
1) Before Sunrise: photograph from the north side to get a nice reflection of the temple in the water
2) As the sun peaks over the east hills: photograph from the west side and get sun stars in the background
3) After the sun is up: photograph from the south side, using backlit bamboo to frame the temple.

Apart from detail shots, a standard wide angle zoom will be sufficient. Drones are not permitted here FYI. After 8 small boats are available for hire which make a nice shot too esp if your prefer people in your images

Travel Information

Parking available. Official opening hours are 8am onwards, but you can get in at 6 or earlier too. As its quite far from Ubud or Denpasar, spending the night before in this area is recommended. Other locations in the area include Handara Gate, Banyumala Waterfall, Tamblingan Temple, (wet season is better), and a bit further Sekumpul Waterfall
