Ireland Aasleagh Falls

Ireland consists largely of bogs. Excess water from the bogs turns streams and rivers a boggy brown. This is also the colour of the Aasleagh Falls, on the border between Counties Galway and Mayo.

Photography Tips

Aasleagh Falls Photography Tips: Visit at sunrise or sunset for golden light. After rain, the falls are more dramatic. Use a slow shutter speed (1/4s–2s) for silky water; a tripod is essential. Frame with rocks or trees for depth, and try low angles for a dynamic view. Autumn brings warm foliage, while spring has lush greens. Overcast days reduce glare and enhance colors. Protect your gear from the mist with a lens hood and waterproof cover.

Travel Information

There is a Parking lot just around the bend of the road.
A crossing over a pasture fence allows access across a meadow. That's what I thought! But the meadow turned out to be a green overgrown bog. On the way to the waterfall I walked in places as if on a soaked sponge.
There is also a walkway from the roadt along the east bank of the river.
