Italy Volcano on the Island of Vulcano Pano

This was taken at the top of the volcano on the Island of Vulcano part of the Aeolian Islands north of Sicily. This looks back toward the Island of Lipari with the sulphur gas escaping from the edge of the crater

The Island is located a short boat ride from Lipari for a cost of 5.5 euros each way. The climb to the top takes between 30 to 45 minutes. A reasonable level of fitness required . We caught the 7.00 am ferry from Lipari and I was walking just after 7.30 am. You walk about 1 klm up the road before a well sign posted entrance at no charge. At this time there was no other climbers however on the way back down at 9.00 am there were plenty making the climb. We were there in October.
