Italy Val di Mello Nature Reserve
The most characteristic aspect of the whole valley and its side valleys is the enormous extension of the rocky walls that appear smooth, clear and bright and create a very particular landscape pushing from the highest peaks, which exceed three thousand meters, up to lick the valley floor below a thousand meters of altitude. The lithological nature of the area, largely characterized by a granite rock called giandone, very compact and suitable for climbing, combined precisely with the extension of the rocky walls, make the Val di Mello one of the destinations chosen by climbers. Its characteristics make it an attractive destination for hikers, mountaineers and mountain lovers.
Photography Tips
You'll need a head lamp to set the scene in the dark before the sun rise, a tripod and a warm jacket (it could be quite chilly in summer too).
Travel Information
The best way to get in Val di Mello is by car.
During the summer you must leave the car in San Martino. Although the path that runs from San Martino to the valley floor is practically flat and accessible to everyone, there is a shuttle bus service that allows you to reach the end of the road that enters the nature reserve.
