There is hardly another region like Lake Song-Kul where you can marvel at the vast highland grasslands like here. From early summer, farmers settle here in their yurts and live their traditional nomadic life. A good chance to get to know this way of life.

Photography Tips

Drive along the roads around the lake at sunrise, look where the sun is shining at that time of year and pick out a few herds of horses from a distance. Then bring some patience and your telephoto lens.

Travel Information

The pass road, which opens in early summer, will take you from the capital Bishkek to this lake in just over three hours by almost any car. There are several yurt camps on site where you can spend the night. Small signs at the side of the road indicate that there are places to sleep. There is always a place available.
