Namibia Sesirem Canyon, Namibia
Sesriem Canyon, located near the entrance of the Namib-Naukluft National Park, is a stunning geological feature carved by the Tsauchab River over millions of years. This narrow, 30-meter-deep canyon stretches about a kilometer long and offers visitors a fascinating glimpse into the region's geological history. With its layered rock walls and shaded, the canyon provides a contrast to the surrounding desert landscape. You can explore the canyon on foot, discovering natural pools that hold water even during the dry season, making it a vital water source for wildlife and early settlers.
Photography Tips
I used a 28-70mm lens to get this photo and asked a friend to stay at the end of the short end of the canyon for a sense of scale. The late afternoon light was perfect for creating this incredible atmosphere and helping you play with light and shadows!
Travel Information
The parking is very close by and is free of charge. But you are already in the National Park and therefore have to pay around about 100 NAD per day for your visit.
