Netherlands Icebreakers at Marken
Bewildered in a place where time stood still and in awe at the beauty of this amazing Dutch nature, the icebreakers on the Markermeer are only a reminder of the harsh winters that the islanders must cope with from time to time. Nothing has been staged in this photo - not even the sandals that tell an interesting story.
Photography Tips
The vantage point is actually left to the photo but I found the sandals on the Jetty so interesting that I moved right a bit. Bring a tripod, and be ready to get your feet wet if you wish to take the perfect shot with the stones in the foreground.
Travel Information
Cars may not enter Marken, you will have to park at the entrance for a fee (for a day 9 euros and for an hour eur.3), otherwise take bus nr. 35 as in both cases you'll have to walk. The spot may not contain more that 2 tripods.
Marken is located at the eastern end of the Marken Peninsula, thus making it perfect for sunrise. I do not believe there are any bus operating at these hours of the day.
A 25-30 minutes walk you will find another great spot which is the lighthouse of Marken.
