Netherlands Sanatorium Zonnestraal Hilversum
Former sanatorium "Zonnestraal' in the woods near Hilversum. Zonnestraal used to be a tuberculosis sanatorium in the 20's and 30's ... Designed by famous architect Jan Duiker, who also designed the beautiful "Theater Gooiland" ... For years it's been in decay, but in 2004 thankfully, a wonderful restoration at the main building was done. At present time, the only building needs restoration is the Dresselhuys Pavilion. Zonnestraal has been submitted to the #UNESCO World Heritage Site list but is still, to this day, on the tentative list. Great detail in the building’s window frames is the “Duiker Blue” … a light color blue you will also see at Theater Gooiland and other famous buildings designed by Jan Duiker.
