Netherlands Kiekkaaste view

Birdwatching hut The Kiekkaaste in Nieuwe Statenzijl is the only birdwatching hut in the Netherlands that is located outside the dikes. From the birdwatching hut, bird lovers have a beautiful view over the muddy fields of the Dollard, where you can often see hundreds of colorful sandpipers. On the salt marshes, you can also sometimes see seals and porpoises. Please note: the path leading to the hut can be messy. In very strong winds, a visit to the birdwatching hut is also not recommended.

The photo is taken with a telephoto lens from the dam to get the wooden boardwalk in the foreground and add some dynamic to the image. If you are traveling as a group, it might be nice to have someone walking on the path to give the scene some scale.

You can park at the marked location (in the morning for free). Then, it's just a few minutes by foot to the area.
