Netherlands North Tower lighthouse on Schiermonnikoog
The Noordertoren lighthouse on the Dutch Wadden Sea island of Schiermonnikoog has no official name but is usually called Noordertoren or North Tower. The former second lighthouse on Schiermonnikoog was the Zuidertoren. The Noordertoren was built from brick and natural stone in 1853-1854; it is 37 m high, giving the lighthouse a height of 44 m above sea level. The tower has been equipped with radar since 1979 and is manned 24 hours daily. It has been listed since 1980 and was painted red in 1998. A weather report is sent from the tower for coastal shipping.
Photography Tips
To capture the lighthouse and the path leading towards it, it is recommended to take a wide-angle or at least a 24-70mm lens. This spot is very nice for sunset if there aren't too many clouds in the sky.
