Netherlands North Tower on Schiermonnikoog in Blue hour

The Noordertoren lighthouse on the Dutch Wadden Sea island of Schiermonnikoog has no official name but is usually called Noordertoren or North Tower. The former second lighthouse on Schiermonnikoog was the Zuidertoren. The Noordertoren was built from brick and natural stone in 1853-1854; it is 37 m high, giving the lighthouse a height of 44 m above sea level. The tower has been equipped with radar since 1979 and is manned 24 hours daily. It has been listed since 1980 and was painted red in 1998. A weather report is sent from the tower for coastal shipping.

I took this photo with a wide-angle lens and tripod during the blue hour to capture the lighthouse's activated light and keep the information about the surrounding nature and the lighthouse itself. It was tricky to expose since a slower shutter speed helps with the surroundings, but the wind makes the foreground very blurry.

You have to take a ferry to reach the island Schiermonnikoog. No cars are allowed on the island, and renting a bike to get around is best. You can easily reserve the bike to be picked up and dropped off at the harbor.
