New Zealand Kea at the Otira Gorge look out
The Kea is New Zealand's mountain parrot and is famous for its bright orange under wing and incredible intelligence. There are two spots on near Arthur's Pass where you can regularly see these amazing birds up close. The first is here at the look out and the second is at the Cafe on the main street.
Photography Tips
Kea like chewing on the rubber window surrounds and wiper blades of cars. Just stand near your car and wait. They are very curious and well use to humans at these locations. You won't need a long lens.
They are endangered, probably due to self inflicted rubber poisoning, so do not feed them.
