Alpine lake on the highway between Christchurch and Arthur's Pass. The road goes right next to the lake and there are several different vista's available as you drive past.

Photography Tips

As this is an alpine area, the wind can get up and kill any chance of reflections. You can sometimes get a hoar frost on the scrub around the lake in winter and it can get partial ice cover if it has been really cold.

Summer provides a warmer experience with the colours in the hills coming out in the reflections.

Travel Information

There are plenty of spots you can pull off the road as you drive around the lake. Keep in mind this is a main highway and make sure your vehicle is well off the road before stopping. Also be care getting back on the road.
