Poland Nowy Port Lighthouse
In 1893, the 27-metre-high combined lighthouse, pilot and time ball towerwas built as one of the most beautiful lighthouses in northern Europe.
From the beginning, the lighthouse served three different functions: as a coastal lighthouse, a pilot tower and a time ball station.
In 1939, this lighthouse went down in world history when, on 1 September of that year, at 4:45 a.m., shots were fired from its windows at the Polish military post of Westerplatte lying on the opposite bank of the Dead Vistula, thus triggering the Second World War.
