Portugal Vulcao dos Capelinhos from Porto do Comprido

This spot at Porto do Comprido with a view towards Vulcao dos Capelinhos on the left and the lighthouse called Farol da Ponta dos Capelinhos on the right is one of the most beautiful places on Faial Island, Azores, Portugal. You have everything that is awesome for photography within one place: Different great composition opportunities for the foreground with the rock formations in the water and a really nice background with the unique shape of the area where the volcano erupted in 1958.

Use the beautiful rock formations for your foreground with an exposure time of around 1/8 to 1 second, depending on how fast the water moves to get really nice shapes that lead towards the background of the image. A wide angle lens is definitely helpful for this, but there are quite a lof of other nice angles and perspectives, so it's not a must-have.
If you are using a wide angle lens, you might have a tending lighthouse, which can easily be fixed in post processing though.

ND-filters and a polarizer are highly recommended for this spot, because it makes the flow of the water much more beautiful and you get more options for longer exposure times.

This place in the north-west of Faial is very easy to reach by car. The volcanic region is well-signposted from Horta. You can leave your car nearby at the waterfront. Just make sure that you have sturdy shoes with you, because the rocks are extremely sharp and sometimes slippery. As always at the ocean, you should definitely pay attention to the tide, because you don't want to get stuck by the rising waterlevel on the rocks.
