Romania Turda Gorge (Cheile Turzii)
About 10 to 15 km west of Turda, the Hășdate stream cuts through the limestone of the Trascău Mountains. Thus it created the Turda Gorge (Cheile Turzii) on the eastern edge of the Apuseni Mountains. The mountain walls rise vertically 300 m to the left and right, and there is hardly any space for the hiking trail beside the stream.
Travel Information
The path consists mostly of bare, shiny limestone, which is slippery anyway in the humid microclimate of the gorge; in autumn the fallen leaves increase the danger of slipping. So we are happy about every concrete passage, especially when the path squeezes tightly between the rock face and the stream.
