Romania Bigar Waterfall
Romania has so many hidden wonderful places that are little known …even to Romanians. Bigar Waterfall is one of them & is located in Caras-Severin County, which ranks first in a recent chart of unique waterfalls. This hidden gem can be found somewhere on the road between the village of Bozovici and the village of Poneasca, in the Anina mountains.

Photography Tips
Bigar is one of the few falls that can be photographed well from above as from below. Be extremely careful descending to the creek as the rocks are extremely slippery. I found the best place to descend not at the walking bridge but about 100 feet farther North. Best shooting on a cloudy overcast day. Being deep in the gorge, direct sunlight only lands on parts of the falls and causes exposure issues. When the sun came out, I waited a minute or so for cloud cover and was able to get good even lighting adequate for longer exposures.
Travel Information
Bigar is easy to access as it's located right off the highway. There is parking for only 4 cars at the falls, but we found additional parking about 100 yards farther North.
