Romania Bucura lake
Bucura lake is the largest of the glacier lakes of Retezat National Park in Romania.
Photography Tips
It is difficult to photograph sunrise or sunset as the cauldron that contains the lake has north-south orientation but with a bit of help from the clouds you could get nice results. The water is clear so with a polarizing filter you can see the rocks. If you go out at night for the stars you need to be aware that bears could be in the area although they are more interested in the sheep at the other side of the lake. Go with a group.
Travel Information
The access to the lake is only possible by foot on tourist trails. You have two options. The easiest one is with car to Camping Poiana Pelegii (I've indicated on the map), from there it's a 2 hour hike of around 3-4km. It is less crowded during the weekdays and pretty hellish on weekends. The road is in poor condition but passable with small car. The other road is from the north with car from Carnic and a 6 hour hike.
