Spain Mirador de Orellán
Las Médulas near Ponferrada was the most important gold mine of the Roman Empire. Large amounts of water are said to have been used to mine the mountains in slave labour in order to get at the gold. Today, the bizarre landscape is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The viewing platform at the Mirador de Orellán offers the best overview.
