United Kingdom Stonehenge Wiltshire Great Britain
Stonehenge is a prehistoric monument in Wiltshire, England, 2 miles (3 km) west of Amesbury. It consists of a ring of standing stones, with each standing stone around 13 feet (4.0 m) high, 7 feet (2.1 m) wide and weighing around 25 tons. The stones are set within earthworks in the middle of the most dense complex of Neolithic and Bronze Age monuments in England, including several hundred burial mounds.
The most famous early historical cult site in Europe is Stonehenge. It is, of course, a World Heritage Site. You can already see it from a distance on the way here, in the middle of the fields and meadows.

Travel Information
Car, bus, bike.
In keeping with its importance and fame, it is an extraordinary tourist magnet. The entrance fee is 28 £! (in 2023). Nevertheless, there is a huge crowd until the evening.
Normal visitors are no longer allowed to enter the stone circles (I remember that it used to be freely accessible decades ago). Visitors can circle the site in a large circular path, at one point they can get relatively close. Later in the evening, I observed an exclusive group of visitors between the stelae.
Next to the paid entrance is a gate to a path where the site can be visited free of charge. Admittedly, this path only goes as a tangent along the circular route. But given the restriction of the circular route, it is quite good.
