With all the rain and snow in the recent weeks the triple reservoirs of Ladybower, Derwent and Howden are full to overflowing. The highest reservoir , Howden, when full overflows its dam and pours into Derwent reservoir which in turn overflows into Ladybower which has two “plug holes”to take the overflowing water under its dam and into the River Derwent.

Photography Tips

Take a wide angle lens, a minimum focal lenth of 16mm on full frame (approx 10/11mm on crop) is ideally needed to capture the full scene.

A tripod and sturdy tripod is also needed as the wall is tall.

Use an ND filter to smooth the water if this is the desired effect.

Travel Information

Pay and display car park at Heatherdene a short walk from the plugholes. Free on steet parking is available, but spaces are limited and fill up fast.

Be extremely careful with on street parking and only park in clearly set out bays. There are no yellow or red markings along the road but it is prohibited to park here and the penalty by the local council is £70. Do not just park because other cars have.
