Take a tour bus to Hyde Park.
Alternatively, take the tube to South Kensington and walk up to the Natural History Museum and the Victoria and Albert museum (the V&A) which are free to enter and offer some great photo opportunities, both inside and out. From there, walk up between the museums, along Exhibition Road to the end. Turn left onto Kensington Road and you'll quickly come to the Royal Albert Hall. From there, you'll see the monument across the road.
