United Kingdom Butt of Lewis Lighthouse
This lighthouse stands on some of the oldest rocks in Europe on the coast at the northern end of Lewis, Isle of Lewis and Harris. The Butt of Lewis Lighthouse is located at the north tip of the Isle of Lewis in Scotland's Outer Hebrides. Completed in 1862 by engineer David Alan Stevenson, it guides ships through the treacherous waters of the Minch. The lighthouse, standing 15 meters tall, has a range of 24 nautical miles and is known for its distinctive light that flashes every 15 seconds. The rugged, wind-battered headland is famous for its dramatic scenery and harsh weather, making it one of the most northerly lighthouses in Scotland. While no longer staffed, it remains a vital maritime beacon and a popular site for visitors interested in the island's history and natural beauty.
