United Kingdom Views from the Gherkin, London City

  • Please log in or sign up for free to see the GPS coordinates & weather for this photo spot
The top 3 floors of the Gherkin are a restaurant. As such, its open to the public.

As more and more is built around it, fewer landmarks remain visible; the newest addition, the Scalpel, is almost complete, meaning the Shard is no longer visible. However, as you can see, Tower Bridge is still visible, with the Tower of London in the foreground.

Photography Tips

The angle of the windows creates its own challenges with reflections and the bold window frames. The floor second from top is much easier to work from. Sometimes that floor is closed so you'll need to ask staff for access.

If it needs to be said... be nice to the staff for the sake of the photographers who follow.

Travel Information

Building is usually closed to the Public. Talk to reception.

Update: The restaurant is called "Searcys At The Gherkin" This might get you the access you need but they do have a dress code.

Nearest tubes are Liverpool Street and Bank. It near Leadenhall Market, the Cheese-grater and the Walkie Talkie building.

Such a nice capture before before the Scalpel blocked so much view.

Agreed, really lucked out there! Thank you for all the added comments to the spot. I didn't know much about the possibility of getting in since we got to see that part of the building (not the restaurant) because of a business meeting. Glad to know the restaurant is somewhat accessible!

I've just been given a desk in a building across the road. The top floor is lower than the top of the Gherkin but it does afford an interesting view of the structure plus a set of amazing views all of its own. I'll take a camera in as soon as I can get an OK. I'm also advised that the glass double skin of the Gherkin means mobile reception from outside is so bad that they have had to install picocells.
