Uruguay Old Town Colonia del Sacramento
The oldest city in Uruguay is, in my opinion, also the most beautiful in the country. In the old town you can still see that it was a Portuguese foundation. For many decades it went back and forth between Portugal and Spain; the fort bears witness to this. Today, the old town is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Small colonial-style houses characterise the townscape. There are also neoclassical and Art Deco buildings and coarse paving stones. The streets are lined with greenery, including date palms, plane trees and lushly flowering bougainvilleas and bottle trees.
