USA Goat Lake
A beautiful alpine lake below Cadet Peak in the Cascade mountain range of western Washington. When hiked early in the spring it allows beautiful snow to be captured in the scene. I didn't get a calm day otherwise the reflections in the lake can add a wonderful element to the picture.
Photography Tips
As with all photography get there early for the best light and to try for a mirror like reflection on the lake. It can be done by a day hike; better if camping overnight. The left side of the lake has a nice trail to find the composition. A tripod is not necessary; bring a wide angle and polarizing filter.
Travel Information
This takes a two hour drive from Seattle along the Mountain Loop Highway and a well sign-posted road past Barlow Pass which leads to the trailhead (Elliot Trail/Goat Lake). It takes a 5 mile (9K) hike to the lake which follows a beautiful river/stream which flows form the lake. The hike along the river is beautiful in itself and well worth it.
