USA Salt Lake City (view from Chandler Dr.)

This spot is located on Chandler Dr., which is part of the Avenues suburban neighborhood north of SLC. This area provides panoramic views of the Salt Lake City valley area, and surrounding western Oquirrh Mountain Range.

A medium zoom lens (24~70mm full frame) works well in this spot. At 24mm one may capture a nice view of the SLC valley area. However, one may also zoom in 55~70mm to capture more clear images of the city. A wide angle lens would also be fine (ex. 16~35mm full frame).

If shooting during sunset, please keep in mind you’ll be looking directly into the sun. A graduated filter may be helpful to reduce the brightness of the sky. Or one may bracket their exposure to create an HDR image.

After the sun sets behind the mountains, one will have a beautifully illuminated sky from which to capture many images.

This spot is extremely easy to access. Just drive to Chandler Dr. and park on the side of the road. There exists undeveloped brush area on the side of the road which is a convenient place to setup a tripod and snap a photo. You’ll be taking a photo on the hill above the city mortuary.
