USA Amistad National Recreation Area
Near Del Rio, the Rio Grande is dammed up below the confluences of the Pecos River and the Devils River. The joint project of the USA and Mexico is used to supply drinking water and generate electricity, but also for leisure and recreation. On the Texan side, the reservoir and its surroundings form the Amistad National Recreation Area. During my visit, it is dusty dry and the water level has fallen to an all-time low (in 54 years). Thus the lake has exposed a bizarre karst landscape.
