You have an amazing view of the whole city from the panoramic platform of Triangle Tower in Cologne. The trip to the top of this over 100-meter tall building costs about 3 Euros per person and is worth it in my opinion. You should check the closing times depending on what you would like to photograph because if you would like to do long exposures you should be there at the beginning or end of summer because they close during winter days at 6 pm and during summer at 10 pm.

Photography Tips

If you want to take photos in the dark you should prepare yourself with something like a dark blanket against the reflection in the glass windows of the observation platform.

Travel Information

There is a car park beyond the building, which is also available for visitors. If you arrive in the evening you can also use the parking of RTL in the street nearby. If you come by train, go to the stop "Cologne - Deutz" (Köln-Deutz). From here it is about 5 minutes to the building.

The beautiful blue color of the smoothened water is the result of a long exposure over 30 seconds, a blue sky and towards the end of the blue hour.

In addition I exposed twice (one for the sky only, which is overexposed on the second shot for the rest of the scene) and combined the photos.

You need to get close to the glass and cover any opening between the front of the lens hood and the glass. Then there will be no reflections anymore. A simple rubber lens hood pressed against the glass will do as well

Fabulous photo, Reiner, considering this has been shot through glass!!! amazing exposure and excellent compositing with this bridge crossing the frame towards the church. Unbelievable colors! bravo!

You and Michael Keil have managed to get the two statues at the start of the bridge which is awesome, however, the bridge is stealing all the attention if the cathedral is not lit :-)

You are right with the bridge getting the attention. The reason for the dome not being illuminated as usual is a lightshow taking place on the southern side during 4 days. Hence it is a rare event without light on the dome.
