Greece Burnt Mountain, Méthana

One of the Saronic Islands is a peninsula: Méthana is connected by a narrow land bridge to the mainland. The name of the peninsula is probably determined by the sources of sulfur and carbonic acid on the edge of the capital of the same name. There is a spa with a so-called stink lake. Also the harbour in the village smells of rotten eggs.
The peninsula consists of over 25 volcanoes, most extinct and eroded. One, however, is still recognizable in the roughness of its solidified lava some 2,000 years after its last outbreak: "Kameno Vouno" (burnt mountain).

Near the village of Kameni Chora, a hiking path of approximately 1.5 kilometers leads to the peak of a 412 meters cone that corresponds to the crater. The top has a breathtaking view of the Saronic Gulf.
