Iceland Þjófafoss and Búrfell volcano
If you are anywhere near the Golden Circle, South Iceland, or heading interior, this waterfall is well worth the detour!
Þjófafoss is a breathtaking waterfall on the Þjórsá river in the middle of the Merkurhraun lava field. Situated with mount Búrfell in the background, this is an incredibly picturesque place to visit!
Þjófafoss means “thieves fall” because, as the legend has it, thieves were taken here and drowned for their crimes.
Note that due to the dam upper on the river, there might be no water here (mostly in winter).

Photography Tips
You need a wide to ultra-wide angle here as the fall is large and we are close.
Travel Information
You have to come in a car. Gravel road. Upstream, you'll find another waterfall (approx 300 meters perhaps a little bit more).
