Netherlands Markthal Rotterdam
The Market Hall (Markthal), is a residential- and office building with a market hall underneath the "horse-shoe" arch which was designed by MVRDV. Inside the building, the walls are painted in striking colours with artwork by Arno Coenen showing huge-sized fruits, vegetables, seeds, fish, flowers and insects. What is amazing about this place is that the work was made using digital 3D techniques. This enormous file of 1,47 terabytes needed special servers, which are also used by Pixar Studios for making animated movies. The digital 3D animation was separated into 4,000 pieces and then printed onto steel. Some call it the largest artwork in the world or The Sistine Chapel of Rotterdam.
Photography Tips
Use the widest lens you have, no tripod is needed. The place is at times overcrowded with people: while extremely safe, it's always good to protect your gear when pointing up your camera to the ceiling. Also, just around the corner, visit the curious yellow cube houses.
