Romania Praid Salt Canyon

At Praid is the most famous salt mine in Romania. Not far from the mine, the salt comes to the surface as rocks. This can be seen very beautifully in the so-called salt canyon (Canionul Sara). The Corund River has washed out a valley (not really a canyon) and exposed the salt rocks on both banks. A walkway on a good wooden plank path runs on a circular route for about 1.5 km through the valley. There, as well as to the left and right, the exposed salt rock can be seen at a total of nine stations, as well as small rivulets that wash salt out of the mountain. At their edges it crystallises into pretty crusts. There are very bizarre salt formations that water (precipitation) has modelled. Some slopes glow red in the sunshine from the salt-loving saltwort growing there. The river carries fresh water, except after heavy rain. This washes large quantities of salt into the river. The fish then get dizzy and the people there catch them by hand.
