USA Cactus Garden Trail
In the greater Tucson area, in Arizona, in many places there are saguaro cacti, single ones or many a few metres apart in large areas. In any case, they are impressive, if only because of their size. Many resemble oversized candelabras. They are protected in the two-part Saguaro National Park. According to my guidebook, there are considerably more of the large cacti in the western part of the park than in the eastern part. And this western park inspires, not only with the giants. Here I also see "fishhook barrel cacti" with a crown of unripe fruit on the "barrel", "chollas", which look cosy from a distance but have lots of spines and shine in the sun as well as diverse others.
Here at the Red Hills Visitor Center, along the short Cactus Garden Trail, a good variety of cacti and additional desert vegetation can be seen.
